1. Topic Social Networking Sites and their Uses Student No. 1 (Speaking in favour of the topic) Respected teacher and my dear friends, Good afternoon all! Today’s topic of discussion is ‘Expanding Use of Social Networking Sites’, like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedInd or Whatsapp, for that matter. I am in favour of using them since they are the easiest and most convenient media of connecting with far away friends and relatives. Social networking sites are such an amazing tool as they have facilitated us to trace even those friends with whom we had totally lost any touch earlier. Moreover, this majestic media allows us to share our life events with friends and family. Students can share ideas and knowledge by communicating to their teachers and friends all over the world. This makes them creative. Apart from the learning and _ entertainment aspects, it has one more significant aspect, i.e. advertisement and exposure. Many business firms, entrepreneurs and even job seeking youngsters can share their profile and get exposed to a wide range of audience. Last but not the least, it is upto us whether we get advantage of it by using it in a moderate and decent way or get addicted to it. Student No. 2 (Speaking against the topic) Good afternoon to the respected teacher and my dear friends, I agree to some extent with what my dear friend has just expressed. But in my opinion, social networking sites are the mere way of ‘exposure’ and ‘show-off. And this race of exposing events to the world creates ‘envy’ and ‘unhealthy competition’ as people these days spend a lot of their time and energy in clicking pics, selfies and posting them. Students end up hampering their study this way. Many youngsters post their personal information on these sites. This can be detrimental to them in many ways, as the strangers often make misuse of it. Even careers of many are spoilt. ‘Many people use them till late night this badly affects their health too. Finally, I would conclude saying that, the entertainment, connectivity and sharing of knowledge are at one side and
